less dreaming < more living

To anyone and everyone who has been a part of the journey of less dreaming more living and or came out to the show tonight…thank you from the bottom of my heart. And more specifically those of you who gave of your time and energy (you know who you are) thank you. The older I get the more I realize that there is no greater expression of art then the act of generosity and or giving. Its beauty transcends all efforts of expression and completely unveils the human condition leaving it naked and hard to look at. I say all that to say, I am learning that art is not easy and it almost always costs something. By no means is this record perfect and by no means are those who made it, but it holds great sentimental value in my heart because of the generosity we experienced throughout the making of it. As for the band it’s time for a short breath after what seemed like a very long road of getting where we are. We are looking at the summer/fall with a new record, more shows, and much ambition to push the band to the next threshold.

In other news, I will be embarking on a new musical project with my good friend Savannah Jane very soon under the working title of “Me and My Ghosts”. We hope to involve many friends and I honestly have never been more excited to work on something I have so little expectations for. The only thing I care about is sharing MMG and whatever it turns into with you people out there. Also my main man Lee Baker and myself will release a project called “RUNNER” one day very very soon if we can ever get around to finishing it.

Well In the good words of my friend Taylor Brown (also a popular quote from the movie “dumb and dumber”) “welp seeya later”, or Brittney Barefoot’s favorite “seeya later aligator” (also a semi-popular saying to which one might reply “after a while crocodile” which is also derives from the iconic 1950’s rock and roll hit. Wow I am up too late…..)
bye,

It’s odd how the existence of a band can eerily mimic the cycle of a human life. Maybe it’s not really too much to wrap the mind around, considering it takes human beings to create and perform art—so naturally, the larger group entity will take on the shape of its contributors. Bands are born as music stirs in a like-minded group of individuals. As it grows and begins to explore its fledgling ideas, its legs are made stronger over time. Relationships are formed internally as well as externally. Sometimes, various things are left to breathe or grafted in. Sleep will occasionally occur, and though you may not see or hear from it for a while, upon closer observation, one can see tiny breaths being taken steadily beneath the surface. Hopefully, as the process continues indefinitely, a point is reached where it can be loosely agreed upon that a sound, a voice, or a mission has been discovered. We are happy to have been afforded with the opportunities, the resources, and the time to be able to once again attempt to bottle what it is that speaks so deeply to the four of us. This year has taught us so much about being proactive. It has just recently occurred to us that creativity is less about sitting around waiting for inspiration to happen, and instead, about making inspiration happen. Before we knew what we were going to call this thing, we learned how fruitless it truly was to just wait for lightening to strike in the same place twice. I make that reference because “My Heart is Slowly Beginning to Work” wasn’t so much a painstaking process as it was a group of suppressed creative minds exploding onto paper. I won’t call it sloppy—but I won’t call it elegant, either. We quickly came to the realization that we had to be creative on purpose. Making a record became that thing you choose to do—not the thing you hope to feel. “Less Dreaming, More Living” came from that idea. After that, there was no more sitting around waiting for lightening to strike. We became the lightening—nay, Zeus himself! We are so excited to be releasing this feeble attempt at expression. We hope, above all else, that we can impart the meaning of this concept to those who hear it. Hopefully, some of you are as sick of the sugary idea of dreams as we are. Make life happen. So, if we were to attach this idea of a band mimicking the life of its parts, which stage of the human cycle is LilyWhite in? I think we’d all agree in saying, “Mom, knock! We weren’t doing anything, I swear!”

The lilywhite members are a bit skattered about right now as we anxiously wait for this record to peak it’s dirty head around the calender. Me sitting here finishing up highschool, Wes doing college finals and all that smart people stuff, Garrett is probably out riding a jet ski, and Nick has started a cross country road trip by himself. I think he said something about taking a ring to cast into the fires of Mordor, or something like that. We have sent the record off to our very good friend and pre-producer Ben May for mixing and mastering. I’m excited to hear. We are jumping on ordering shirts, stickers, posters, and other goodies this week. We are also in the process of booking for the summer so look for new dates and let us know if you can help fill any. On another note, I got my hands on the new Minus the Bear album OMNI yesterday. I love how each of their albums distinctly differ from eachother but still have those certain core elements that make it a Minus the Bear album. Yes, it is different from their past albums, but if you wanted something that sounded like Planet of Ice, then go listen to Planet of Ice. My ears will continue to enjoy the distinct vocals, unique panning, tasteful guitar parts being ran through way too many pedals, and the synth driven parts of OMNI. I definitely recommend you let your ears do the same.

Some studio footage…sorry about the click :) We’re actually tracking drums here although it’s a video of me those were just scratch tracks. This song’s titled “Repeat, Recycle, Re-use” and will be on the new record set to release June 11th. In other news LilyWhite is now a member of the vimeo website. You should try it out…looks way better than youtube plus the sites just a lot cleaner and I like the player better.
Enjoy,
-Wes

Here is a very very “demo” type version of a song that’s gonna be on “Less Dreaming, More Living” (for those who don’t know that’s the new record we’re working on). I’m going to try and make it available to FREE download but I am writing this before I’ve looked into the details on how to do that so I can’t promise anything. Anyway, the song is titled “In the flesh” and like I said its just a demo version with several mess ups actually, but nevertheless I like it this way and can never replicate the emotion behind singing through a new tune for the first time.
thanks for listening,

It seems odd that in light of launching a new website I am uploading a somewhat archaic lilywhite video but for some reason it feels right. We’ve been working diligently on the new record over the past few weeks and specifically this weekend; we started pre-production with our good friend Ben May who has humbly given up his weekend to fly down from Illinois and be with us. Friday was probably, mentally and emotionally, the hardest I have ever worked at music but I think I speak for all the guys in saying that I couldn’t be more satisfied as well as excited about these songs and the direction of the band. However, I think that in every new season of life there is a feeling of nostalgia and the sense that things changed so quickly…so discreetly that you never even saw it coming. It is in these times that we remember things that have now become complex in their simplest forms. Example: I can remember back to a time where I didn’t care about anything more in music than the opportunity to play electric guitar. My passion for it was focused and pure and it’s something I envy every time I watch one of these old clips. Now…understand that my purpose here is not to say that things get worse the more complex they get. I understand that in many life circumstances as things change you can kiss the luxuries of honeymoon stage simplicity good bye. I cannot rekindle my first experience of playing in a band and writing songs but a look into the past every now and then is healthy habit and one I enjoy thoroughly. So here’s my blast from the past shared with you. If you’ve seen the edited version i encourage you to watch this again. It is the raw footage…it just felt right, and who knows maybe you were there and didn’t remember.
